The Anegada Rock Iguana
Programmes

The British Virgin Islands National Parks Trust operates several programmes that help to fulfil its mandate as a Natual Resources Management Organization. These programmes are varied in scope and nature.

They can however be broken down into the following categories:

Species Restoration
Bird Conservation
Iguana Rehabilitation

Over the last eight years the National Parks Trust has restored Flamingos to the island of Anegada. Eighteen were reintroduced and now a total of 41 flamingos are now resident on the island.

The Trust is also rehabilitating the population of the 'Critically Endangered' Anegada Rock Iguana. Thirteen hatchlings were recently placed in a headstart facility.

Moorings/Reef Protection

Recognising the need to protect the territory's beautiful but fragile coral reefs, the National Parks Trust spearheaded a Moorings/Reef Protection Programme. Close to 200 buoys have been installed since the system was set up in 1991.
