The National Parks Trust (NPT) was founded in 1961, with a mandate to serve as the custodians of the territory’s national parks, more than two thousand acres of property and wildlife habitats. The NPT is entrusted with the preservation of the BVI'’s national heritage. The twenty-one areas managed include terrestrial and marine sites, such as the Wreck of the RMS Rhone, and historical sites, such as the Sugar Mill at Mount Healthy and the Copper Mine on Virgin Gorda.
